Overall Review 6 of 10
Izumi’s is a good sushi spot. The service is a bit slow. The food is alright. The biggest drawback is where they skimp. Overall, it is a great place for take out sushi, but I don’t necessarily reccomend dining in. However, we would definitely go back…and it is our second time there.
What We Had 5 of 10
Interestingly enough, we branched out at this dinner (we had friends there with us, and couldn’t just order our old standbys alone!). We had a big mix of sushi, sashimi, and maki. They were quite good all in all. The rice was a bit dry. The unagi also. Our biggest complaint with Sushi places around the Milwaukee area happened for a second time and Izumi’s, and tend to happen more here then in other cities. We prefer low sodium soy sauce
especially since sushi meals tend to be high in salt anyway. We absolutely hate it when sushi place substitute real low sodium soy sauce for a mixture of real soy and water. We want flavor, not watered down soy sauce. . . and this is unacceptable. (can you tell I really care about this)
Atmosphere 7 of 10
Izumi’s is a great little place, with private rooms and a nice big dinning room, that sport high ceilings. The music is low and the lighting is from traditional paper lamps. All in all, a quaint little spot in a beautiful old building.
Others 8 of 10
What a great location. Lots of things to do in walking distance. Alterra coffee across the street. Parking is generally easy, but with only one entrance can be a bit tricky if the people in the lot don’t back up for you. We would say you should give it a chance, but don’t get low sodium soy sauce.
