Las Vegas - Words I don't understand
Last week I was in Las Vegas at the Stanford University Dept of Radiology PET-CT Symposia
If you want to be confused, you should attend this meeting as a newbie like me. This was a wonderful learning experience full of presentations on why PET/CT is so cool, what you can do with it, how to read the images, Q&A and a workstation showdown. I quickly realized that I was not the smartest person in the room, and that continued to sink in as a full 10% of the spoken words were foreign to me. Why is that? As it turns out I don’t know a whole lot about cancer. I’d never heard of adenocarcinoma or lymphadenopathy or a bunch of other cancer related terms. What’s exciting is that I will get to know them over the next few years. What’s not exciting is knowing full well that studies have shown that up to 2% of the healthy population, if screened for cancer on a PET/CT, would show positive results (meaning they have cancer).
Anyway – it’s an exciting field and the product has huge potential to improve patient outcomes. Event’s like this are a great way for me to learn more about it.
