Green Lake
We had a wonderful weekend in Green Lake, WI with Tim and Laurie relaxing by the lake, jet skiing, playing baggo – which we were the weekend champions of, and tubing on a ridiculously large tube. The weather was perfect, and meeting both families was great. I always love to meet my friends families… especially when you have heard so much about them for a while. Great to put a face to the name. If we would have taken pictures, I would share them… but alas.
I can't use hmm as my title
Because I’ve used it 4 other times… and that confuses the internet (1, 2, 3, 4…. infact – I can’t even give links! Ha!)
interesting…
This isn't breaking news...
But we did have a really good time this weekend sailing up to Port Washington, WI with Tim and Laurie on our boat.
Our trip was only about 30 miles of so… but on a sailboat it still took 4-5 hours each way. The wind was perfect on our way north… in fact, we thought it was going to rain pretty hard on us, but we were willing to brave the conditions, which as it turns out dissipated as they got to the lakefront and we had no rain at all.
On the way back we had some very heavy wind… 20mph average with gusts in the 30’s. Tim and I put a double reef in the main sail and only let out the genoa 20% which did the trick, and we had a nice, and exciting (very exciting at times) ride home.
In all, sailing is more about getting to the destination than the destination itself… yes a philosophical reading from my vast experience of only ONE trip somewhere… and we had a great time.
My camera wasn’t working because I didn’t charge the batteries, but Tim brought his along and got some good pics – Thanks Tim.
Big News of the Day
We are very excited about two things this week:
1/ My buddy Matt was hired by the FAA to be a flight controler in Milwaukee… after a year of waiting!
2/ My grandma passed her dirvers test, and can now go to church and the grocery store on her own again
How about that…
Nice Long Weekend
We had a lovely July 4th holiday (four days off this year) and really enjoyed every part of it! Here are some of the things we did:
– Won a regatta (sailing) on a friends Melges 24 which totally changed our perspective of the sport and we want to get more into it with time and experience… maybe even on our own boat one day?
– Went to see Tim McGraw at summerfest, which easily was the best concert I have been too. He had an 11 piece band backing him up and they were tight (played together for 10 years). I knew almost every song he played too. Great show… I highly recommend it.
– Took the boat out to see the July 4th fireworks. As it turns out, July 3rd is the BIG Milwaukee fireworks show (1hr long), but July 4th all the communities host their own shows… If you are on the lake, like we were, you can see a bunch of them. We counted more than 12 individual shows that lasted well over an hour all from the first to last sparkle.
– Took some friends on our boat out a few miles (200+ ft deep) and went swimming in Lake MI. Here are some new pics from the boat … now you’ll recognize our sails (blue and white diagonal stripes) when we’re out, they are the only ones like it in Milwaukee
– Went on a couple of bike rides with Cathy
– Did some gardening around the house
– Completely cleaned out our kitchen cabinets from all the old expired can goods, etc. The winner: A Feb 2004 can of beans. Can you believe it? Feb 2004 expiry puts the purchase date into 2003! Ha! We recently did the same thing with our medicine cabinet.
Beach (Bradford?) Cruiser
I want a new bike… specifically a cruiser.
I’ve been riding a “department store” vintage 1960’s bike for a while now, but I really want to start riding more often with Cathy now that we live in a more bike friendly environment. She’s up for it too, but the thing is both of our bikes need some work.
She is on a mountain bike right now, that we are thinking of getting commuter tires and a better, more comfy seat for. My bike needs some gears so I can keep up with her. Instead of redoing my bike entirely though, I am leaning more toward getting a new or old one. I’ve been looking at some vintage Schwinn bikes… from a corvette to a phantom and a typhoon … but these old bikes, although really cool, don’t generally have the multi speed capability I want. I refuse to remove original parts from a classic cruiser, so that leaves me with finding one that was originally multispeed or buying a new bike outright that is in a vintage style. I am leaning in this direction, and this bike has caught my fancy recently…
Harley Davidson Tour
Before we went down to Matt’s Graduation (see below) my dad came out to see the house, the boat and just goof around in Milwaukee.
Since he recently got a Harley we decided it would be fun to go on the plant tour in Wauwatosa, WI
This was a really good tour. They bring you right onto the shop floor with goggles, in ear speakers so you can hear above the rumble and all. We didn’t get as much info as a dork like myself would like, but it still was really neat to watch how they put together the engines. If you have an extra hour or so, I’d recommend it.
Later we went out on a long sail down to Cathy’s office.
All in all, a wonderful weekend prior to and including graduation!
